Raven

Pebbles to the rain
She came
Wings folded
And hidden safely
Beneath her raven hair
Fair to say
The sway of her hips
Dominated the air
Around our lungs
We wondered
How we had ever been okay
Before her

Firing words
Before unheard
Searching for the weight
In anticipation
Sensation of raindrops
Rolling down
Goosepimple skin
Drinking in water
That no one could see
Free in the laughter
Honest friendship can offer
Scoffers speak hatred
Because they are afraid

Wading through water
Collected in our danger
Stranger things have happened
Before the price we paid
Laying this foundation
The raising of a nation
I could center on frustration
Or build a brand new day

Say to yourself
In the mirror on a daily
Roll up your sleeves
Be involved in the change
